Post of Clinical Research Fellow (2 posts available)

Applications are invited from exceptional junior medical staff for the posts of Clinical Research Fellows based at either Castle Hill Hospital or Hull Royal Infirmary academic departments commencing August 2019 for a period of 6 months initially, extendable to a total of 12 months depending on satisfactory performance. This post does not attract a National Training Number. The post will suit an F2 doctor or a doctor within one year following completion of Foundation Training who wishes to broaden his/her academic skill base and to gain further experience in research.

Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to developing a research career and aspire to become the next generation of clinical academic leaders at Hull York Medical School / Hull and East Yorkshire NHS Hospitals Trust. Applicants must also be enthusiastic, motivated and interested in research. You should possess proven communication and interpersonal skills. It is important you are comfortable engaging with students, patients and staff at all levels. This post is primarily designed to allow the successful candidate to focus on academic development and work towards an MSc, MD or PhD with up to 25% clinical work if required and fits with applicants educational needs.Successful candidates will be selected on the basis of academic potential, regardless of clinical specialty and will be helped to identify a research project in a subspecialty of their choice. Successful applicants will be able to re-apply for continued funding for a further 12 months if required but this funding is not guaranteed. The appointees must have registered or be in the process of registering for a higher degree within the calendar year of starting this post.

The Trust provides care to a population of 1.3 million. The catchment area encompasses East Yorkshire, North East Lincolnshire and the Scarborough & York Districts of North Yorkshire. The academic and research activities in the Trust involve all specialities provided at both sites. The applicant will be expected to use the funded fellowship post to obtain an MSc or part of MD or PhD and evidence of engagement in research will be a distinct advantage.
