We are seeking a suitably qualified, experienced, Specialist Biomedical Scientist to work in our busy, friendly, Special Biochemistry laboratories at Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

Your role will be to carry out specialist analytical tests and take the lead for a designated area of the laboratory, under the supervision of a Senior Biomedical Scientist. We are looking for an individual who is hard working, innovative, sociable, and works well as part of a team.

You will be registered with the HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist, have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Biochemistry Laboratory and have an IBMS Specialist Diploma in Biochemistry or equivalent postgraduate qualification.

With excellent road and rail links to Yorkshire and beyond, Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals is one of the five largest trusts in England and serves a population of 1.2 million people with general and specialist services.

The Blood Sciences department has a large test repertoire and is one of the busiest and best-equipped laboratories in the region, processing approximately 8.5 million tests per year. Special Biochemistry incorporates toxicology and TDM, along with other specialist enzyme, hormone, vitamin, small molecule, and trace element analysis available in few other laboratories. Main equipment includes two Waters mass spectrometers, two Agilent atomic absorption spectrophotometers, Menarini and Waters HPLC systems, and electrophoresis systems from Helena and Sebia. The Core Biochemistry laboratory is equipped with full Beckman Coulter automation.

The wide variety of expertise available and the support we will give you provides an ideal environment for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist to develop. The successful applicant will rotate through all sections of the Special Biochemistry Laboratory and participate in the rota covering Core Biochemistry service provision on a shift pattern basis.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated, forward thinking individual who wants to make a significant contribution to the development of the department and patient care.
