We are excited to offer an excellent opportunity for career progression with the establishment of the Consultant Therapeutic Radiographer role and invite applications from highly motivated, enthusiastic and experienced Therapeutic Radiographers with a specific interest in Prostate or Breast radiotherapy. The role of Consultant Therapeutic Radiographer will specialise in either Breast or Prostate cancer treatment.

The post holder will lead in the development of the new role and achieve full integration into our highly performing clinical service. The job will be based at the Queen’s Centre at Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham; a purpose built centre that has a range of facilities for our patients along with access to Macmillan services and our Living with and beyond team. There will be a requirement to support peripheral clinics in Scarborough and North Lincolnshire and Goole hospitals, which will involve travel to these locations.

The successful applicant will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to build good relationships with patients, families and colleagues within the radiotherapy service and wider MDT. The post holder must have a wide knowledge of breast/prostate cancer and the modalities for treatment along with a good knowledge of future treatment regimes in radiotherapy.

The post holder will be expected to attend weekly MDTs to discuss their case load and contribute significantly to the clinical management of all patients in their speciality. They will be required to advise the wider MDT on a wide range of technical and patient related issues.

As senior member of the radiotherapy management team it is expected that you will have a strong contribution to all service development activities undertaken in the department and that developments specific to the specialised area will be led by you.

The post holder will fully engage with research and development in relation to their role, including national portfolio trials, service evaluation and audit. Delivering pre-registration and post-graduate training will also be an essential part of the role, sharing specialist knowledge and expertise of radiotherapy with colleagues. This could include the wider MDT such as Dosimetrists, junior doctors, Physicists and Therapeutic radiographers. The post holder will be expected to drive the service forward and remain at the forefront of new developments in their specific area.

It is anticipated that the successful candidate will require training, as well as an MSc in a relevant subject or completion of their MSc within the years training scheme. A fully supportive training package will be offered for the right candidate who will be appointed to a training consultant Therapeutic Radiographer position (Band 8A) for a period of 1 year.  Upon satisfactory successful completion of the training period, by demonstrating competence in all aspects of the role, the post holder will be appointed to the consultant post (Band 8B).
