 An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse to join the Neuro-oncology nursing team for a 12 month secondment.

The Regional Neuro-oncology service is based at the Neurosurgery Department at Hull Royal Infirmary, and the Queen’s Centre for Oncology and Haematology in Castle Hill Hospital.  The service covers North East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire region and also in addition some patients diagnosed with Brain tumours in York are referred to this MDT for further management. The service covers a population of  around 1.6 million and deals with patients who have Brain and CNS tumours, Pituitary tumours, Skull Base tumours and Spinal tumours.

The Neuro-oncology nursing team works closely with the wider Neuro-oncology MDT to provide a holistic service for this client group. Taking on the role of Key Worker, the post holder will work with the Neuro-oncology specialist nursing team to provide specialist advice, support and care for individuals who are being investigated or treated for a tumour in the brain or central nervous system.

This involves working as part of three multi-disciplinary teams, across the Neurosurgery Department at Hull Royal Infirmary, and the Oncology Department at Castle Hill Hospital.

A core Multi-disciplinary team member, the Neuro-oncology Clinical nurse Specialist will work also work autonomously, identifying care needs, providing specialist advice and ongoing support to this client group. The CNS will also work with key stakeholders to develop specialist care packages and develop services for Neuro-oncology patients across the network, providing high quality care and leadership to those caring for this client group.

Applicants will be 1st Level Registered Nurse and will have been qualified at least two years with experience in Neurosciences, oncology or palliative care, multi-disciplinary working, and with excellent communication skills. You must have permission from your line manager to apply as this is a secondment.
