Applications are invited for the post of a locum Consultant in Cardiac Surgery for a period of 12 months in the first instance, to commence as soon as possible.

This is an additional locum post to support the short term capacity shortfalls impeding the speciality’s ability to clear its waiting list backlog in cardiac surgery and to provide further resilience for winter pressures.

The successful candidate will join 5 other Cardiac Surgeons based at Castle Hill Hospital to provide comprehensive acute and elective Cardiac surgical service.

Approximately 700 major cardiac operations are undertaken annually. All aspects of cardiac surgery including major aortic surgery, mitral valve repair, surgery for atrial fibrillation and off pump surgery are carried out. We are currently working towards setting up a TAVI programme. There is a weekly revascularisation, valve and ICU MDTs at Castle Hill Hospital. In addition we provide weekly outlying clinics and MDT support to Grimsby, Scarborough, Scunthorpe and York Hospitals.

Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust provides a comprehensive range of acute services from two hospital sites. It serves a population of approximately 1.2 million. With an annual budget of over £481 million and employing approximately 8,000 staff the trust is committed to the continuous development of services for the benefit of patients and to providing a comprehensive service of the highest possible quality.

Already a vibrant and dynamic city, Hull has been The City of Culture since 2017. Hull’s vision is to be one of the UK’s top ten destinations for shopping, art, sport, leisure and most importantly, living. A huge amount has already been spent on creating new shopping centres, waterfront living spaces, art studios, office complexes and visitor attractions such as the Kingston Communications Stadium and The Deep – the world’s only submarium. Better still, within the next 5 years the city will have seen over £250 million in investment.

The region also boasts a diverse coastline ranging from award-winning sandy beaches to dramatic cliffs. Inland you’ll find mile upon mile of green, unspoilt countryside and woodland that are perfect for walking, cycling or horse riding. And if you like exploring, there are endless historic towns and picture postcard villages within a short driving distance from Hull. Right now, housing is plentiful, varied and affordable, too and there is a fantastic selection of high-quality schools to choose from.
