Job overview

A development opportunity for a dynamic  individual who has experience in healthcare waste systems. We are seeking someone who is motivated and   focused on improving  our  hospital waste streams   and will make a positive  difference to support our trust  Net Zero strategy  and objectives. The role will require working across all hospital sites. If the candidate is successful in secondment, it may lead to a  permanent position in the role.

Main duties of the job

Ensure the safe and effective management of waste throughout the Trust

Assist in meeting quality and waste reduction targets within the Waste Management Department

Ensure an efficient and effective audit programme within the Waste Department.

Ensure continuous development and maintenance of processes.

Assist in meeting performance targets.

Assist in the implementation and maintenance of all auditing processes across the Waste Management service, and support the audit process for the Facilities Department.

Champion effective, efficient and compliant waste disposal, ensuring that no waste is disposed of in a non-compliant manner.

HUTH has two main sites: Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital with an annual budget of approximately £800 million. The Trust employs around 11,000 staff and serves an extended population of 1.25 million, delivering a number of outpatient services from locations across the area.

The Trust’s secondary care service portfolio is comprehensive, covering the major medical and surgical specialties, routine and specialist diagnostic services and other clinical support services. These services are provided primarily to a catchment population of approximately 600,000 in the Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire area.

HUTH provides specialist and tertiary services to a population of 1.25 million extending from Scarborough in North Yorkshire to Grimsby and Scunthorpe in North East and North Lincolnshire respectively.

Desirable criteria
  • Member of one of the following: • IEMA • CIWM


Essential criteria
  • Experience in working in either Facilities Management, or environmental management
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in internal auditing
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience in delivering training and/or inductions

Skills Knowledge and Ability

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Waste Regulations
  • Ability to communicate at all levels, both in writing and verbally.

  • Degree level (RQF level 4 or above) Facilities Management related qualification (or demonstrable equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • Waste Management qualification
  • Recognised audit qualification
